Since 1982, the Silver Libertad has been a key product from the Mexican Mint. For decades, it was only offered in BU and proof forms. Then, in 2015, the mint released a Reverse Proof version for the first time. Over the next few years, the new style was made in three sizes: 1 oz, 2 oz, and 5 oz. All 2025 5 oz Reverse Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins from BGASC are housed in plastic capsules. The reverse proof format provides a unique finish where the coins design shines with a mirror-like surface, while the background appears frosted.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2025 Reverse Proof Silver Libertad shows Mexicos coat of arms. The center features a golden eagle holding a snake while standing on a prickly pear cactus. Around it are ten earlier versions of the national emblem, each used at different times in Mexicos history.

Reverse

On the reverse side of the 2025 5 oz Reverse Proof Silver Libertad, Winged Victory is shown as a symbol of freedom. She is depicted in a partial side view, holding a laurel wreath and a set of broken chains, symbolizing Mexicos independence.

History

For more than 30 years, Silver Libertads were only offered as BU or proof coins. In 2015, the mint launched two new collectible versions. The Reverse Proof debut came that year with the 1 oz size, while the 2 oz and 5 oz coins followed in 2017. An antique-finish version also came out in 2018, though it was only made for two years. The Reverse Proof remains a regular option in the series.

Across all releases in 2025, the Mexican Mint has significantly reduced the mintage of its Mexican Silver Libertads and opted not to produce any 2025 Mexican Gold Libertads. In particular, mintage levels for all BU Silver Libertads have reached record lows for the series, a development that is expected to create lasting scarcity for this years coins.
