On the reverse of the 2025-S Proof Navy Privy American Silver Eagle, a bald eagle appears in flight. Designed by Emily Damstra in 2020, the image depicts the eagle soaring with outstretched wings while holding an oak branch, representing power and independence.

History

The Spanish-American War of 1898 established the United States as a naval power. Victories at Manila Bay and Santiago de Cuba displayed the strength of the fleet. Influenced by Alfred Thayer Mahans sea power theories, the U.S. built a modern navy and established new bases across the Pacific and Caribbean. By the time of the Great White Fleets global cruise from 1907 to 1909, the Navy had grown into a true global force.
