Winnie the Pooh first appeared on December 24, 1925, in a story published in Londons Evening News by author A.A. Milne. The character was inspired by a stuffed bear owned by Milnes son, Christopher Robin. That bear was named after Winnipeg, a Canadian black bear from the London Zoo, along with Pooh, the name of a swan the family once knew. History

The first Winnie-the-Pooh book was released in 1926 with illustrations by E.H. Shepard. These stories introduced readers to Pooh and his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood.
