Product Description
The Nez Perce people have lived for thousands of years in the area now called Idaho, forming winter villages along river valleys and moving with the seasons to hunt, fish, and gather roots across the surrounding plateau. Their lifeways relied on salmon runs, camas harvesting, and buffalo hunts east of the mountains, resulting in a semi-nomadic culture shaped by strong awareness of the natural environment. Their history is recognized in the 46th release of the Native America the Beautiful Series. Now, 2026 1 oz Colorized Native America the Beautiful Idaho Silver Coins are available online at BGASC.

Obverse
The obverse of 2026 1 oz Colorized NATB Idaho Silver Coins shows Nez Perce tribal members building canoes in the glow of the moon. In September 1805, the Lewis and Clark Expedition arrived in Nez Perce territory while worn down by hunger and exhaustion. The Nez Perce provided much-needed support by sharing food, assisting with canoe building, and offering direction that helped the explorers navigate river routes on their way to the Pacific.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2026 Colorized Native America the Beautiful Idaho Silver Coins is the standard bald eagle design used across the series. The head of an American bald eagle sits at the center of an eight-pointed star. Between each point, arrowheads appear along the outer edge, completing the familiar emblem found on all releases.
History
The Nez Perce organized into autonomous bands instead of a centralized tribal government. Each band consisted of extended family groups led by respected headmen who earned authority through wisdom, generosity, and leadership rather than inheriting it. Bands gathered seasonally for fishing, hunting, trading, and ceremonies, but maintained their own governance and independence throughout most of the year.
