Designs

On the obverse of each 90% Silver Roosevelt Dime, you’ll find a left-profile bust of President Roosevelt, designed by John Sinnock in 1946. The reverse features a central torch flanked by an olive branch and an oak branch.

History

The passing of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1945 left a significant mark on the nation. As World War II reached its climax, his death created a sense of loss across the country. Serving as president for four terms, Roosevelt’s leadership from 1933 to 1945 was pivotal.

The US Mint’s decision to redesign the dime in Roosevelt’s honor reflected his enduring legacy, particularly his work with the March of Dimes. With the Mercury Dime in circulation for over 25 years, replacing it without congressional approval was feasible.
