Obverse

The obverse design, created by engraver George T. Morgan, features Lady Liberty facing left. She wears a Phrygian cap accented with cotton and wheat, reflecting themes tied to American agriculture and growth. The design draws inspiration from classical art and has remained popular for generations.

Reverse

On the reverse, a heraldic eagle is shown with outstretched wings. The eagle grasps arrows and an olive branch, symbols that represent national defense and peace. A partial wreath of cotton and wheat frames the design, creating visual harmony between both sides of the coin.

History

The original Morgan Dollar series came to a close in 1921 after a brief revival authorized by the Pittman Act. This act allowed the melting of older silver dollars and required new coins to be struck in their place. That year, Morgan Dollars were produced at three different mints, making 1921 a unique and historically important issue. The Peace Dollar replaced the Morgan design later that same year, marking the official end of the series.
