2024 Australian Lunar Dragon Coins at BGASC
Mints all around the world issue coins dedicated to the Chinese zodiac. The most popular of these is the Perth Mint’s Lunar Series. The overall series began in 1996 with the Year of the Rat. Once the Year of the Rat returned in 2008, Lunar Series II began, followed by Lunar Series III in 2020. These coins are issued in several different silver and gold sizes and showcase the lunar animal for that year. Silver Coin Design
For silver coins in the series, there are many different designs. The main one sees a dragon swirling around the design field but looking at the viewer in front-facing relief. The dragon is seen blowing fire, as a flaming pearl accompanies the mythical creature. Beneath the dragon is the year of issue, the traditional Chinese character for the animal, and a unique P125 mint mark for the Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.
Other options see colorful dragons, either in left-profile relief or right-profile relief, chasing the flaming pearl. Coins are available in many variations such as BU, proof, colorized, antique, and more.

Gold Coin Design
Unlike silver coins released for 2024’s Year of the Dragon, gold coins feature one main design. A dragon is seen flying around the design field in right-profile relief. To the right of the dragon, the year of issue as well as the traditional Chinese character for the dragon is displayed. To the left of the animal, the P125 mint mark is shown. The dragon is seen flying around a field of fog and waves.
