2024 British Silver Britannia Coins at BGASC
The British Silver Britannia series debuted in 1997, a decade after the inception of the British Gold Britannia series. Struck annually by the Royal Mint, these coins are the official silver bullion coin of Great Britain. These coins in 2013 underwent a massive change as the purity increased from .958 silver to .999 pure silver. Sizes Available
At BGASC, we have three unique options available for the 2024 British Silver Britannia, including two fractional-ounce weights.
- 1 oz: 2 Pound Sterling (GBP).
- 1/4 oz: 50 Pence.
- 1/10 oz: 20 Pence.
Recent Design Change
The 2023 release of the British Silver Britannia featured Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse and later transitioned to King Charles III for the latter half of the year. 2024 marks the first year where just King Charles III will be showcased. This effigy was designed by Martin Jennings. Previous designs of Queen Elizabeth II were created by Raphael Maklouf (1997), Ian Rank-Broadley (1998-2015), and Jody Clark (2016-2022).
Security Features
One thing this coin program is known for is its unique array of security features. These include the following:
- Alternating Images: Alternating images to the lower left of Britannia.
- Micro-text inscription: Inscription placed on the rim between Britannia and the outer field reading “Decus Et Tutaman.”
- Surface animation: Depending on the angle you view the coin, the background on the reverse changes.
- Tincture lines: Located on the Union Jack shield.
