90% Silver Washington Quarters ($100 FV, Circulated)
Product Description
President George Washingtons image on the U.S. Quarter is one of the most familiar coin designs still in use today. First released in 1932, his portrait has remained on the obverse of the coin ever since, making it the longest-running design on any U.S. coin in active circulation. Right now, 90% Silver Washington Quarters are available to order from BGASC.

Obverse
The obverse of each Silver Washington Quarter includes a portrait of George Washington in left-profile relief. This design was created by John Flanagan and first appeared in 1932. It was inspired by earlier images of Washington created in 1786, including a bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and a sculpture by William Cousins.
Reverse
On the reverse side of these 90% Silver Quarters, youll find the bald eagle used in the Great Seal of the United States. The eagle is shown with its wings spread, facing forward. Its head turns to the left toward a bundle of arrows in its left talon, while the right talon grasps an olive branch.
History
Interestingly, Washington was not originally intended to appear on the Quarter, nor was the design meant to last as long as it has. In 1924, Congress formed a commission to plan the 1932 bicentennial of Washingtons birth. The initial idea was to place his image on the half-dollar coin for just that one year, in place of the Walking Liberty design.
However, that plan changed when Congress chose to update the Quarter instead. They decided to retire the Standing Liberty design and introduce Washingtons portrait permanently, starting in 1932. No quarters were produced in 1931, and the Washington design debuted the following year and continues today.
