Design

The obverse side of the 1 Oklahoma Goldback Gold Note shows a historical scene of westward travel. A female figure rides a horse ahead of a wagon train, holding a banner that reads PERSEVERANTIA. This word stands for endurance and resolvetraits required by the many settlers who braved the difficult landscapes and conditions of the American frontier.

History

Oklahoma was once a key path for western settlers during the 19th century. Large wagon trains passed through the region along trails such as the Santa Fe, Oregon, and California routes, helping to connect the eastern U.S. with developing western territories.
