Palladium Bullion at BGASC
While gold and silver bullion offer more variety in terms of products to diversify one’s portfolio, one precious metal that has seen some popularity growth in recent years is palladium. This metal is part of the platinum group of metals and was discovered in 1803 by William Hyde Wollaston. More than half of the global supply of palladium is used on catalytic converters. Palladium Coins
While there aren’t a lot of coin programs that focus on Palladium Coins, two of the most well-known coin programs in the industry have both begun offering palladium options to investors.
- American Palladium Eagle: The gold and silver coin programs in this series debuted in 1986. The popularity led to a platinum release in 1997 and a palladium issue in 2017. These coins are made with 1 Troy oz of .9995 pure palladium and have a face value of $25 (USD). Adolph A. Weinman’s Winged Liberty design is on the obverse while his American bald eagle design is shown on the reverse. Over the years, the US Mint has struck four different types of Palladium Eagles including BU, proof, reverse proof, and burnished coins.
- Canadian Palladium Maple Leaf: The Canadian Palladium Maple Leaf is widely regarded as the first major palladium bullion coin. These coins were struck from 2005 to 2007, again in 2009, again in 2015, and have been issued every year since 2015. These coins feature the same design elements as all the other Canadian Maple Leaf coins with the sugar maple leaf on the reverse and the reigning British monarch on the obverse.
You’ll notice that at BGASC we also offer certified palladium coins. These are coins that have been graded by professional coin grading providers. Two popular options are the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). Coins are graded on a 1-70 scale and then encapsulated in protective plastic slabs.
Palladium Bars
Many mints and refiners also produce Palladium Bars. These bars are minted ingots and often feature similar design elements as their gold, silver, and platinum counterparts.
- Argor Heraeus: These palladium bars feature the identifying marks of the bar on the obverse, with a repeating pattern of the logo on the reverse. Bars will arrive in sealed blisterpacks.
- PAMP Suisse: These bars are part of the Fortuna series from PAMP Suisse. Bars showcase the Roman goddess, Fortuna, on the obverse, with identifying marks of the bar on the reverse. These bars arrive in sealed blisterpacks with assay cards.
- Valcambi: Valcambi produces palladium bars that showcase the identifying marks of the bar on the obverse, and the company name on the reverse. These bars also arrive with assay cards.
