Royal Australian Mint
The Royal Australian Mint (RAM) was founded in 1965 and serves as the official sovereign mint of the country. The Royal Mint opened up 3 unique branches in Australia – the Perth Mint, the Melbourne Mint, and the Sydney Mint. While the Sydney Mint was the first to shut its doors, the Melbourne Mint assisted in coinage production for the RAM while it was opening. Afterwards, the Melbourne Mint closed down and the Perth Mint stayed open, eventually being handed over to the state government of Western Australia.
Today, the RAM strikes coins for the Australian government, as well as nations such as Tonga, Fiji, and Malaysia, among others. While collectors and investors are more aware of the Perth Mint when it comes to bullion coinage, the RAM also has a handful of bullion coin programs that are issued annually. Learn more about the Royal Australian Mint, right here at BGASC.
