Design

On the design of the 100 Idaho Goldback Gold Note, Libertas is shown walking toward the viewer while holding a shovel. She moves across a field with the dramatic Shoshone Falls visible behind her. Located along the Snake River in Idahos Magic Valley near Twin Falls, Shoshone Falls plunges roughly 212 feet. This drop makes it nearly 50 feet higher than Niagara Falls and one of the tallest waterfalls in North America. The falls extend nearly 1,000 feet wide at their broadest point and were formed thousands of years ago when the massive Bonneville Flood cut through ancient basalt lava flows roughly 14,500 years ago. For centuries, this powerful natural landmark held deep meaning for Indigenous communities of the region, including the Shoshone-Bannock tribes.

Libertas, the Roman goddess associated with liberty, remains one of the most recognized allegorical figures connected to freedom. In the Roman Republic, Libertas symbolized the rights and responsibilities that came with citizenship.
