    Goldbacks, a unique form of gold currency, are making strides toward reintroducing spendable gold into the American economy. These privately designed and minted gold notes come in small weights of 24-karat gold, making them not only affordable but also practical for 21st-century transactions. Unlike traditional gold coins worth thousands, Goldbacks offer more reasonable weights, potentially bringing back the use of stable gold currency.

    Background on Goldbacks

    It’s important to note that Goldbacks are not considered US legal tender but rather a form of voluntary currency. They are available in weights of 1/20, 1/40, 1/100, 1/200, and 1/1000 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold. Vendors and retailers in US states can choose to accept Goldbacks for purchases.

    What is a Goldback?

    Goldbacks feature beautiful designs on the obverse side, with thin gold layering that prevents designs from bleeding through on the reverse. Various series are available for different states, showcasing unique depictions of female allegories such as Liberty, Victory, Prudence, Fortitude, Justice, Sophia, and Charity.

    Each Goldback is crafted with thin layers of 24-karat gold within polyester sheets and comes with a plastic currency sleeve for protection. For convenience, Goldbacks are offered in 100 Packs for the 1 Goldback denomination and five-note packs for each state series, containing all five denominations.

    Goldback Collections

    Goldbacks have been released for five different US states so far. The movement began in the American West with Utah, expanding to include Nevada and Wyoming. New Hampshire recently became the first East Coast state represented, and South Dakota joined as the fifth state, representing the American Midwest.
