Goldbacks are a privately issued form of voluntary local currency created by placing a thin layer of 24-karat gold between protective polymer sheets. Each note combines detailed artwork with a measured fraction of real gold, offering a modern currency concept backed by precious metal. First introduced in Utah, Goldbacks have gradually expanded to additional states as a way to blend the historic reliability of gold with practical daily exchange. The Idaho series adds new designs inspired by the states history and landscape. Right now, 5 Idaho Goldback Gold Notes are available online from BGASC.
Highlights:
- Comes with individual sleeves or bundles of 20 notes!
- Special design for the Idaho series!
- Visuals inspired by the allegory Clementia!
- Contains 1/200 troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
- The design recalls the Great Fire and its aftermath in Idaho.
- Please keep in mind that Goldbacks are NOT US legal tender.

Security elements built into each note include UV-reactive designs, detailed micro-printing, and unique serial numbers.
Design
The obverse design of the 5 Idaho Goldback Gold Note depicts Clementia tending to wildlife after the devastation of the Great Fire. The Great Fire of 1910, widely known as the Big Blowup, stands as the most destructive wildfire in American history. Over the course of one August weekend, severe drought and strong winds fueled fires that burned around three million acres across Idaho, Montana, and Washington. The tragedy claimed 85 lives and destroyed communities such as Wallace and Avery in Idaho. The scale of the disaster led to major changes in forest policy and helped strengthen the position of the young U.S. Forest Service.
History
In Roman culture, Clementia symbolized mercy, gentleness, and thoughtful restraint. She was often illustrated as a composed female figure with a peaceful expression, sometimes carrying an olive branch or lowering a scepter to represent forgiveness. Her imagery highlights the idea that leadership guided by compassion can be stronger than leadership ruled by force. As an allegorical representation of care and responsibility, Clementia also reflects the importance of managing land and resources with consideration.
