United States Certified Gold Coins
United States Certified Gold Coins at BGASC
The US Mint is home to many popular coin programs, such as the American Eagle Series, American Gold Buffalo, America the Beautiful Series, and more. One popular option is to purchase these coins as certified coins. A certified coin is one that is graded by a professional coin-grading provider, such as the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) or the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). Grades and Certification Process
Certified gold coins are graded on a 1-70 scale, with 70 being regarded as a flawless specimen. Both the NGC and the PCGS use the same scale and undergo a similar grading process. Coins are meticulously graded by at least two numismatists before being encapsulated in a protective slab and sent back to the owner.
Grades are prefaced with either MS (Mint State) or PF/PR (Proof).
- MS/PR/PF 70: Perfect specimens with no post-production imperfections, even when viewed under 5x magnification. Coins showcase their full, original mint luster.
- MS/PR/PR 69: Near-perfect specimens with a maximum of two minor detractions such as hairlines or minor contact marks. Coins have their full, original mint luster.
Certified American Gold Buffalo Coins
American Gold Buffalo Coins debuted in 2006 and became the first-ever 24-karat gold coin produced by the US Mint. Coins have been issued annually in a 1 Troy oz size. These coins feature the iconic Buffalo Nickel design of James Earle Fraser, with a Native American male on the obverse and the buffalo on the reverse. Due to how new the overall series is, it’s common to see certified coins with a grade of 69 or 70.
Certified American Gold Eagle Coins
Certified American Gold Eagle Coins offer you a chance to purchase the official gold bullion coin of the United States in graded condition. These coins debuted in 1986, with 4 BU weights (1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz). Similarly, these coins are commonly graded in the higher 60s and 70s due to how new the series is.
These coins are also released in proof and burnished variations. At BGASC, we have a wide range of Proof Certified American Gold Eagles as well.
Certified Pre-33 US Gold Coins
Pre-33 US Gold refers to gold coins that were issued prior to 1933. These circulation coins, such as double eagles and eagles, had actual gold content in them. As such Certified Pre-33 Gold Coins are available in a wide range of grades.
- Mint State (MS): Coins graded between 60 and 70.
- About Uncirculated (AU): Coins graded between 50 and 59.
- Extremely Fine (XF): Coins graded between 40 and 49.
