Proof Certified American Gold Eagles
Proof American Gold Eagles were introduced by the United States Mint in 1986. The Proof Gold Eagles include four weights (1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz) that were introduced in the series between 1986 and 1988. The Proof Gold Eagles are popular with numismatists, but Certified Proof Gold Eagles tend to garner even more interest because of the overall quality and visual appeal of the coins.
Certification Details
Certified American Gold Eagles are those coins received by either the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation or the Professional Coin Grading Service. The NGC and PCGS look at the quality of the design strike, the visual condition of the coin blank, and the overall eye appeal when assigning a coin a grade. Regardless of the grading house, coins are assigned a grade between 0 and 70 on the Sheldon numeric scale. The higher the number, the better the overall condition of the coin, with a grade of 70 representing a perfect specimen. When it comes to Proof Certified American Gold Eagles, the following are perhaps the two most important designations to note:
